Tricky Piles: Privacy policy

Last updated: 26 October 2026

Tricky Piles is a puzzle game for Android. You can play as a guest. Where Google sign-in is available, you can optionally connect an account to back up your progress. This page explains what data the game handles, why, and the choices you have.

Who is responsible

Daniel Inverno, the developer of Tricky Piles. Contact: Inverno3darte@gmail.com.

What stays on your phone

Your progress, best times, stars and settings are saved on your phone. Uninstalling the game or clearing its data deletes them, but Android's own backup may have copied them (with the player id below) to your Google account and restore them when you reinstall the game or move to a new phone. You manage that backup in your phone's settings (Google → Backup).

Optional Google account and cloud progress

Google sign-in uses Android's own Google account sheet. If that sheet is not available, the game opens Google's sign-in page in the browser instead. You never give the game a Google password. Google sends a sign-in token for the account you pick; the game passes it to Supabase and does not keep it. From that token, the sign-in service (Supabase) stores your Google account id, email address, name and profile picture link with your game account. The game does not show them, and your Google name and email are never published to other players. You may choose a separate nickname.

If you sign in while playing as a guest, you keep the same player id and your progress. If the Google account you pick already has Tricky Piles progress from another installation, the game switches to that account; before it does, the guest's campaign and weekly leaderboard results are deleted and it is no longer shown; its daily records and best times are kept (see below).

The connected account stores your unlocked level, completed levels, stars, best times, best scores and tutorial checkpoints in Supabase so the same Google account can recover them on another installation. Settings, the current attempt and purchase ownership are not included. Offline changes stay on the device until a cloud save is confirmed.

Signing out keeps a private local checkpoint for that account on this installation. Signing out or uninstalling does not delete the account or its cloud copy. Reset progress while connected resets the cloud checkpoint across devices, but does not delete the account or nickname. Cloud progress is private. Your nickname is shown on the leaderboards only if you turn on Show my nickname publicly.

Public leaderboards

You join the leaderboards automatically with your first win, whether you play as a guest or with a Google account. You appear under a generated player name (two words and a number). Your chosen nickname is shown instead only if you turn on Show my nickname publicly. Other players can see that name with your rank and results. Your Google name, email and internal account id are never included in the public lists. When you join, your saved campaign scores and stars are sent so the campaign board reflects the levels you have already won.

Leaderboards include practice opponents.

There are three boards. The campaign board ranks total stars across all campaign levels, then the total of your best score per level; it never resets. The weekly league adds up your best score for each level won this week and resets every Monday at 00:00 UTC. On each daily challenge, only your first attempt counts, from your first move: restarting or leaving it ends that attempt, and later attempts are practice. The server accepts a daily result only within one day of that daily's date (UTC). Offline results stay on the device until they can be sent.

For each campaign win the game sends the level, score, time, lives lost and whether you used the continue. For a daily's first attempt it sends the level, score, time, whether you used the continue and whether you won or lost, but not lives lost. The server stores your board results, your private daily records (the first attempt of each daily, won or lost, with its score and time), and a daily count of submissions to limit abuse. We may hide a player name, for example after a report.

To report a player name, tap the name on the Leaderboard screen and choose Report name. This opens an email to us with the name, board and rank. Your email app sends it from your own address.

You can leave from the Leaderboard screen or from Settings. Leaving deletes your results from the boards (campaign, weekly and daily places) and stops new submissions. If you leave offline, the removal waits until the device reconnects. The server remembers that you left, so a later win with the same player id or account does not add you again; only Join again on the Leaderboard screen does, and then you start from your saved progress. To remember the choice, the server keeps your player record (player name, public nickname if you turned it on, a hide mark if one was set, and the daily submission count).

Leaving does not delete your private daily records or your private best times. The daily records keep the daily ranking fair: they stop a player from leaving and rejoining to play a daily's first attempt again. The best times are used for the private "Beat X% of players" comparison. Neither is shown to other players. To have them deleted too, delete your connected account (see Your rights) or contact us. If you left the leaderboards in version 1.5 or earlier, the results you had then are kept hidden; they are deleted if you join again and leave, or on request. Resetting gameplay progress does not delete accepted leaderboard results.

What is sent, and why

Data Why Your choice
A random player id. Created by the game the first time it goes online. It is not linked to your name, email or Google account while playing as a guest. After optional Google sign-in, new results use your connected account. The id links results together, so it is pseudonymous rather than anonymous. To rank your times and to avoid counting the same result twice. Ends when you uninstall the game or clear its data (unless Android restores it from a backup, see above).
Your best time per level (level number, time, game version), with the player id. To show how your time compares with other players ("Beat 80% of players"). Other players never see these private percentile records. Your leaderboard results are separate and are public as described above. Zen mode times are never sent. Leaving the leaderboards does not delete them.
Leaderboard results: for each campaign win, the level, score, time, lives lost and whether you used the continue; for a daily's first attempt, the level, score, time, whether you used the continue and whether you won. When you join, your saved campaign scores and stars. To rank players on the public leaderboards and keep the daily ranking fair. Leave the leaderboards on the Leaderboard screen or in Settings (see above for what is kept).
Level results: for each attempt, the level, whether it was the daily level, whether you cleared it, failed or left it, the mistakes by type, the time, the number of hands, whether you played in zen mode or used the continue, when the attempt ended, and the game and app versions. To find levels that are too hard or too easy and improve the game. Optional: turn off Share play stats in Settings. Results not yet sent are deleted on the phone.
Connection data: the IP address and device or browser type of each session, recorded by the sign-in service that issues the player id. Security and abuse prevention of the service. Comes with going online; nothing is sent when you play offline.
Crash reports: the error, device model, Android and app versions, and an install id added by the crash reporting tool. To find and fix crashes. Sent only when the game crashes or hits an error. The crash service is set not to store IP addresses.

We do not collect precise location, contacts, photos or messages.

Ads

When you lose a level, you can choose to watch a rewarded ad to continue. Ads are shown by Google AdMob. When an ad is requested or shown, Google may collect your device's advertising id, an approximate location derived from your IP address, device information, diagnostics, and how you interact with the ad, to show and measure ads and to prevent fraud. See how Google uses data. The game asks AdMob for ads rated no higher than "Parental guidance" (AdMob's PG content rating).

In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google's consent form asks for your choice the first time you choose to watch an ad (never before you play). You can change it any time under Settings → Ad privacy choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising id in your phone's settings (Google → Ads).

The Remove ads purchase, made through Google Play, makes the continue free without ads.

Purchases

The Remove ads purchase is handled by Google Play. We never see your payment details; the game only stores on your phone whether the purchase is owned.

Website (trickypiles.com/play)

On trickypiles.com/play you can play today's daily level in your browser. You don't need an account, and the website shows no ads, runs no analytics and sets no tracking cookies.

Your game in the browser. Your progress on today's level and your settings (sound, music, language) are kept in your browser's local storage on your device. They are not sent to us.

The web board (optional). After a win you can choose to join the day's web board. Only if you press Submit, we store:

Your browser also remembers the name you chose. After that, a win is sent to the board under that name straight away; "Change" lets you send it under another name.

How long. Web board entries are deleted 30 days after their last update.

Reported names. Every name on the board has a "Report name" option, which opens an email to us. We may hide a name that breaks the rules; a hidden entry no longer shows on the board.

Separate from the app. The web board is separate from the Android app's leaderboards. Nothing you do on the website is linked to an app account, a Google account or a device identifier.

Processor. The web board is stored with Supabase (Supabase Inc., servers in the EU, region eu-west-1), who processes it on our behalf. The game's tables do not store IP addresses; Supabase's infrastructure logs may record them briefly.

Your choices. You can always play without joining the board (press Skip). To have an entry removed before the 30 days are up, email us with the name and the date; clearing your browser's site data removes the code and the remembered name from your device.

Who processes the data

Both process the data on our behalf under their data processing terms. Google shows the ads (AdMob) and handles purchases (Google Play) as an independent controller, and authenticates optional Google sign-in, under Google's privacy policy. We do not sell data. All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).

Legal basis (EU and UK)

Rankings and leaderboards, level results, connection data and crash reports rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving the game; you can opt out of level results in Settings and leave the leaderboards at any time. Personalised ads rely on your consent, given in Google's consent form.

How long data is kept

Private best times and level results are kept while the game is available for private comparisons and game tuning. Leaderboard results are kept until you leave the leaderboards, delete your connected account, or we process a deletion request; results of past weeks are kept but no longer shown. Private daily records and the record that you left are kept until account deletion or a deletion request. If you sign in to a Google account that belongs to another player, the old guest's best times and level results stay under the guest's player id until you request deletion by email, quoting the guest's player name. Optional account identity, nickname and cloud progress remain until account deletion; progress reset replaces the checkpoint while retaining a reset marker to prevent an older device restoring it. Crash reports are deleted by Sentry after at most 90 days.

Your rights

To delete a connected game account, open Settings → Manage account → Delete account and confirm twice while online. This removes the account identity, nickname, cloud progress, and linked private times, level results, private daily records and leaderboard records. It also clears that account's local checkpoint on the device used for deletion. It leaves your Google account and Google Play purchases intact. Updating the game and signing in do not delete progress.

You can also request account deletion by email without reinstalling the game. Server deletion cannot erase copies on offline devices or Android-managed backups; clear local game data and remove unwanted backups separately.

You can ask us about the data we hold, or ask us to delete it, at Inverno3darte@gmail.com. Because we do not know who a guest player is, we may need you to describe when and which levels you played, or give your player name from the Leaderboard screen, to find your data. For a connected account, identify the Google email used to sign in; we may verify ownership before processing a request. Uninstalling the game and removing it from your Android backup removes the player id from your phone, and new data can no longer be linked to the old id. You can also complain to your data protection authority.

Children

Tricky Piles is meant for players aged 13 and older. It does not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date.
